# Firenook docs

> Run the Firebase emulators with Firenook. Install it, switch an existing project, connect your app, keep your data, and use the console and MCP.

Firenook is a drop-in replacement for the Firebase Local Emulator Suite. It
runs your project from the files you already have: the same `firebase.json`,
rules and Functions code, the same client and Admin SDKs, and the same ports.
It serves Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions,
Extensions, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks and Eventarc from one npm package, with no
Java and nothing else to download.

## Find your way

  - [Get started](https://firenook.dev/docs/get-started/install): Install Firenook, switch from the Firebase emulators, start a new project, connect your app, and run tests and CI.
  - [Services](https://firenook.dev/docs/services/firestore): What each emulator does: Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Extensions, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Eventarc and Security Rules.
  - [Cloud Functions in depth](https://firenook.dev/docs/functions/scheduled): Scheduled functions, environment variables and secrets, debugging, and reload on save.
  - [Your data](https://firenook.dev/docs/data/keep-data): Keep data between runs, start from a seed, export snapshots, inspect and compact the store, and recover after a crash.
  - [Tools](https://firenook.dev/docs/tools/console): The web console, the terminal screen, and the MCP server for your coding agent.
  - [Reference](https://firenook.dev/docs/reference/cli): Every CLI command and flag, how configuration is read, the ports, and the MCP tools.
  - [Help](https://firenook.dev/docs/help/troubleshooting): Troubleshooting, the Java 21 error, Windows, running without a Google login, the FAQ, versions, and how to report a problem.
  - [Contribute](https://firenook.dev/docs/contribute/build): Build Firenook from source, run its tests, and see how the launcher, engine and console fit together.

## Status

These docs describe Firenook `0.2.0`, the first release for public use. It
runs on Node 22, 24 or 26, on macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Linux x64 and
arm64 with glibc 2.28 or newer, and Windows x64. Every release passes
conformance replays against the official emulator and packed installs on all
five platforms. Commit your lockfile and upgrade on purpose; see
[versions and verification](https://firenook.dev/docs/help/versions).

Realtime Database, Hosting, App Hosting and Data Connect are not emulated. A
`firebase.json` that configures them still starts, with a warning.
[Compatibility](https://firenook.dev/compatibility) records what each service covers and what it
does not.
